Two cats, Russian Blue Stravinsky and Scottish Fold McCracken, are stolen from a high-end cattery in Sussex, much to the concern of the owner of the Felinicity Cat Hotel And Spa. The thefts, which occurred right under the nose of Brownlow, a sniffer dog belonging to pet detective Sophie Gorrage, have the owner worried about the potential damage to the establishment’s reputation. To Sophie Gorrage, something doesn’t quite add up about the theft of the cats.
Despite the fact that both Stravinsky and McCracken are beloved companions, there have been no recent reports of similar raids, leading Sophie to believe that it's unlikely that a professional thief is specifically targeting pedigree cats. With no suspects in sight, finding the stolen felines is proving to be as difficult as herding cats.
In an effort to uncover more clues, Sophie delves into the history of both animals. She discovers that just two weeks prior to the cat thefts, Stravinsky's owner had been the victim of a burglary in which a set of diamonds, meant to be worn at the BAFTAs, were stolen. While it may be purely coincidental, Sophie Gorrage is not one to believe in chance occurrences. As the trail takes her from London to Paris, she and Brownlow find themselves up against a different kind of criminal, one more ruthless than any they have encountered before.
